An important advantage of the combined SPECT-CT is that it can be acquired without moving the patient, and thus this imaging modality is virtually a fusion image(s). This patient illustrated this advantage of structural skull defect by CT to match physiological “cold” skull lesion by bone scintigraphy.

Diagnostic uncertainty of isolated skull lesion in prostate cancer- Role of SPECT/CT

Skeletal involvement is the second most common site of metastases after lymph nodal metastases in patients with prostate cancer. The skeletal metastases from prostate cancer are osteoblastic in nature and show increased tracer avidity on the bone scan. Focal tracer avid lesion in skeleton especially in skull requires the careful examination by further investigation. The patients with skull meta...

Usefulness of three-phase bone scintigraphy and SPECT/CT for the diagnosis of bone lesions of systemic sarcoidosis

We report a three-phase bone scintigraphy for the diagnosis of a peripheral bone lesion caused by systemic sarcoidosis. A 32-year-old man with suspected osteomyelitis of the right forefinger underwent three-phase bone scintigraphy with Tc-99m hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (HMDP) and single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT). The lesion was rich in blood flow acc...

Gorham’s Disease of the Maxilla and Mandible With Distinctive Cone Beam Computerized Tomographic Features

Gorham’s disease is a rare and atypical disorder epitomized by progressive osteolysis of bone with eventual total disappearance of bone. The etiology is poorly understood with variable clinical presentation. Most times it is initially misdiagnosed as temporomandibular joint dysfunction, periodontal disease or odontogenic tumors clinically and radiographical...

Complex single step skull reconstruction in Gorham’s disease - a technical report and review of the literature

BACKGROUND Gorham's disease is a rare osteolytic disorder characterized by progressive resorption of bone and replacement of osseous matrix by a proliferative non-neoplastic vascular or lymphatic tissue. A standardized treatment protocol has not yet been defined due to the unpredictable natural history of the disease and variable clinical presentations. No single treatment has proven to be supe...

Current state of bone scintigraphy protocols and practice in Japan

Objective(s): Nuclear medicine technologists in Japan often perform additional single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with or without computed tomography (CT) after whole-body imaging for bone scintigraphy. In this study, we wanted to identify the bone scanning protocols used in Japan, together with the current clinical practices. Methods:...
